Welcome Michelle – A New Director at BRIKT CIC

From the very beginning, Michelle has believed in what BRIKT could become.

Long before there were over 50 LEGO® sets, community events, awards or exciting plans for the future, she was there offering support, encouragement and helping shape the journey.

Today, I’m delighted to officially welcome Michelle as a Director of BRIKT CIC.

While the title may be new, her commitment certainly isn’t.

BRIKT has always been about bringing people together through the power of LEGO, creating opportunities for families, supporting local charities and helping people build confidence, friendships and memories—one brick at a time.

Having Michelle join the Board feels like a natural next step as we continue to grow.

Together, we’ll be working to reach even more people, develop new partnerships and ensure BRIKT continues making a positive difference in our community.

Welcome aboard, Michelle! Here’s to the next chapter of the BRIKT journey. 💛🧱

A Pilgrimage Every LEGO Fan Should Make – The LEGO Store, New York 🗽

If you’re a LEGO fan and find yourself in New York City, there’s one place that simply has to be on your itinerary – the LEGO Store at Rockefeller Center.

After arriving in New York from our transatlantic crossing on Queen Mary 2, it didn’t take long before we found ourselves standing outside those famous glass doors. Even before stepping inside, there was that familiar feeling of excitement that every LEGO enthusiast knows all too well.

Walking through the store is an experience in itself. Everywhere you look there are incredible brick-built displays, exclusive sets and plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the creativity that LEGO inspires. It isn’t just a shop – it’s a celebration of imagination.

Of course, I couldn’t leave empty-handed.

But this visit wasn’t about BRIKT.

For once, I decided to treat myself.

Anyone who knows me knows that I usually buy LEGO with everyone else in mind. Whether it’s for BRIKT events, fundraising, or creating new experiences for others, my own collection often comes second.

This time was different.

I chose a LEGO set especially for me, with one purpose in mind – to build it during our return voyage across the Atlantic aboard Queen Mary 2.

There is something wonderfully fitting about combining two of my favourite things: being at sea and building LEGO.

Life on board a Cunard crossing has a slower pace. Days aren’t filled with rushing from one place to another. Instead, you have time to sit back, enjoy the ocean views, and simply be present in the moment. It feels like the perfect setting to open a fresh LEGO box, spread the pieces across the table and lose yourself in the build while the ship gently carries you home.

LEGO has always been more than just a toy for me.

It’s a chance to slow down.

To focus.

To relax.

To forget everything else for a little while.

That feeling is exactly what inspired me to create BRIKT in the first place.

As I left the New York LEGO Store carrying my yellow bags, I realised I’d brought home far more than just a new set and some goodies.

I’d brought home excitement for the journey ahead.

A reminder that sometimes it’s okay to buy something just for yourself.

And another memory that will forever connect New York, Queen Mary 2 and the simple joy of opening a brand-new box of LEGO in the middle of the Atlantic.

Sometimes, happiness really does come one brick at a time.

Who Actually Builds the LEGO?

One thing I’ve discovered is that when Trevor gets a new LEGO set, I’m apparently the official builder!

On our recent crossing aboard Queen Mary 2, Trevor proudly brought along a brand-new Star Wars LEGO set. I imagined we’d spend an hour or two building it together.

Instead, I somehow found myself sat with the instruction book in hand, searching for tiny pieces and carefully clicking them into place, while Trevor was far more interested in chatting and playing with the Captain!

Yes… the Captain.

He wandered over, spotted the LEGO, and before long he and Trevor were discussing the model, laughing together and generally making sure I was keeping up with the building.

It made me smile because, if I’m honest, that’s exactly what LEGO should be about.

Most people think the magic is in the finished model. I don’t.

The real magic happens around the table.

It’s the conversations that start naturally. The laughter when someone puts a piece on backwards. The stories that get shared while you’re searching for “that one grey brick.” The friendships that form between people who may never have spoken otherwise.

At BRIKT we often say we’re not really in the business of building LEGO.

We’re in the business of building connections.

LEGO just happens to be the tool that brings people together.

Watching Trevor chatting happily with the Captain while I quietly carried on assembling the model reminded me exactly why I started BRIKT. A simple box of bricks can break down barriers between generations, between strangers, and between people who might otherwise never have met.

The model will eventually end up in his world of lego on his desk, where his imagination and stories he creates comes to life.

For me, the memory of Trevor and the Captain laughing together while Mum! did all the work? That will last forever.

So yes, I may have built most of the LEGO set.

But Trevor built something far more important.

A memory.

And that’s what BRIKT is really all about. 💛🧱

BRIKT Receives Second Business Award Recognition

Sometimes you have to stop, take a breath, and appreciate just how far you’ve come.

When BRIKT CIC was founded, it started with a simple idea: to use the power of LEGO to bring people together, encourage creativity, improve wellbeing and create a welcoming space for our community.

We never imagined that, within such a short space of time, BRIKT would already be receiving recognition through business awards.

After recently being named New Community CIC of the Year 2026/27, we are incredibly proud to announce that BRIKT has now received a second business award recognition.

For a young Community Interest Company, this is an amazing achievement and one that belongs to everyone who has supported us along the way.

Awards are wonderful, but what matters most to us is what they represent.

They recognise the smiles we’ve seen around the building tables.

The confidence that grows when someone completes a model they never thought they could build.

The conversations that begin over a handful of LEGO bricks.

The friendships that are formed.

The volunteers who generously give their time.

The families who continue to support us.

Every brick tells a story, and every person who walks through our doors becomes part of the BRIKT journey.

These awards give us confidence that we’re heading in the right direction, but they also inspire us to dream even bigger.

Our vision has always been to create a permanent community hub where children, families, adults and community groups can come together to build, create and connect.

A place where imagination has no limits.

A place where everyone feels welcome.

A place where LEGO becomes so much more than just bricks.

As we continue to grow, we remain committed to developing new opportunities, expanding our LEGO Library, working with local organisations and creating experiences that bring people together.

To everyone who has attended a session, donated LEGO, volunteered, supported us, shared our posts or simply encouraged us along the way…

Thank you.

You are helping to build something truly special.

This award isn’t just for BRIKT.

It belongs to every single person who believes in what we’re building together.

Something Bigger Than Us

When I first started building the BRIKT library, it was just that… an idea coming to life, one set at a time.

I was focused on the practical things.
Choosing sets.
Organising builds.
Figuring out how it would all work.

But somewhere along the way, something shifted.

People started reaching out.

Not just with interest, but with genuine excitement.
Messages of support.
Offers to help.
People asking how they could be part of it.

And that’s when I started to see it coming together…

Because this was always the reason behind BRIKT.

Not just a place to build LEGO®,
but something built around people.

A space where you can sit down, switch off, and just build.
Where conversations happen naturally, without pressure.
Where every build quietly gives something back in the background.

What changed wasn’t the idea…
it was seeing others connect with it too.

Then came the first sponsors.

People and businesses choosing sets.
Linking them to charities that meant something to them.
Trusting BRIKT to turn something simple into something impactful.

That’s when it really started to feel real.

BRIKT was no longer just something I was building…
It was something the community was building with me.

And that changes everything.

This is only the beginning, but one thing is already clear…
BRIKT is bigger than I ever imagined.
