“I have loved LEGO® for as long as I can remember.”
Growing up, I had three brothers. Two of them were my stepbrothers, and when our families first came together, none of us were particularly happy about it. It was a big change for all of us, and like many blended families, it took time to find our place with one another.
But LEGO® changed that.
When we sat down with a pile of bricks, none of that mattered anymore. I was six years older than them, but age didn’t matter when we were building. I became the older sister who could help them, encourage their imagination, and dream up new things to create together.
Even as I grew older, LEGO® never really left me. It was always something I came back to, a creative outlet that stayed with me through the different stages of life.
Years later, I found myself doing the same thing with my own son.
When Trevor was born, everything changed. With my health challenges, being constantly active or doing high energy activities wasn’t always possible for me. I had to find different ways to spend time with him, ways that still felt meaningful and full of connection.
We started with DUPLO® and then moved on to LEGO®, and building together quickly became something we both loved.
And in many ways, those moments are what BRIKT is built on.
LEGO® has also shown me how creativity can connect people far beyond our own homes and communities.
When we took bricks to Djibouti, I saw children light up as they built, imagined and created together. It was simple, joyful and full of possibility.
Those moments stayed with me. They showed me that building is not just about the bricks themselves. It is about confidence, imagination, problem solving and connection.
That experience helped shape the heart of BRIKT.
More recently, LEGO® has taken on an even deeper meaning for me.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, I began to notice how important those small movements had become. Some days my hands don’t quite cooperate the way they used to, and the fine motor skills that once felt effortless can now take patience and determination.
LEGO® has become something that helps me keep those skills moving, even on the frustrating days.
But it also reminds me of something else. LEGO® has always been about connection in my life. It helped turn stepbrothers into real brothers. It gave my son and me something special to share. And I believe it can bring people together in so many other ways too.
What I love most about building is that it does not need perfect words, perfect confidence or perfect circumstances.
A few bricks on a table can give people a reason to talk, laugh, focus, help each other and share ideas.
That is what I want BRIKT to offer. A welcoming space where people can arrive as they are, choose something to build and leave feeling a little more connected than when they walked in.
That’s why I started BRIKT.
BRIKT is about creating a space where people can build, create and connect. A place where imagination matters more than age, experience, or ability.
Whether you are an experienced builder, someone rediscovering LEGO® as an adult, or just curious to see what it’s all about, you are welcome.
Because sometimes all it takes is a pile of bricks and a little imagination to bring people together.
“Sometimes all it takes is a pile of bricks and a little imagination to bring people together.”
Whether you build, donate, sponsor or simply want to get involved, there’s a place for you in the BRIKT community.
